Additional
to the explanation of the basic symbols used in Feng Shui,
every month on this section, we will bring brief information
on meaning of symbols, colors and shapes that we can use at home,
at the office or in the gardens to make more significant
our lives.
Symbols, shapes and colors can act on our conscious
mind, but are also powerful in the subconscious. Their
presence triggers memories and thoughts of places, emotions,
desires, time, achievements, goals or people.
The size of the symbol can be important depending of
the space available, and the materials which are made
of, play a significant role in Feng Shui when placed
with the purposes in the cycles of the elements. But
most important is how connected you are with that symbol
and knowing consciously when it is the time “to
let it go”.
This is especially when we talk about superstition and
clutter; feeling that you are unhappy or in danger or
do not have better good luck because you have or you
don’t have a specific item, that is superstition.
To buy and accumulate them without sense, that is clutter.
Look for the reasons that you are connected to that
object or symbol, and made of them a conscious meaning
to your life.
Symbols
can be use for different purposes: decoration, religious
meaning, marketing, heraldic, representing a geographic
area, a community, a culture or a group. They can be
use from different ways, as in replicas, photographs,
paintings, shapes or computer wall papers.

In Chinese metaphysics the use and analysis of the Five Elements is one of the basic principles of study. The Five Elements are stages in the transition of energy or material phases that interconnect and affect the quality of the objects and the world; they constantly interact with each other in combinations that are considered productive, controlling and weakening, creating what is called the Cycles of the Elements.
Those five elements represent magnetic orientations, seasons, organs, emotions, personal energies, industries, shapes, smells or even time.
In Traditional or Chinese Feng Shui when a consultant assesses a place, they also provide advice for the correct use and placement of objects with the necessary characteristics. That placement and what the object is made of create the harmonious balance between the Five Elements, to bring positive events to places and their occupants.
In Feng Shui the centre and the South West of a place are represented by the Earth Element. The South West is associated with the mother of the family, relationships, marriage and friends as well the autumn and the sunset. It is also represented by earthy colors, square solid shapes or flat surfaces. In the cycle of the elements, Earth produces Metal. Earthy and autumn colors are used as a symbol to suggest or remind us of the qualities of the Earth element. In ancient China, during the Song, Ming and Qing Dynasties, yellow ornaments and ceremonial clothes were used by the Emperor to worship the Earth.
The Earth element provides these qualities: Yin energy, grounding, security, settlement, solving problems, savings and abundance, decision making and the ability to see the big picture of a situation.
When used excessively, the Earth element, may cause people to feel apprehensive, stuck with unsolved matters, suffer from emotional blockage, and feelings of jealousy or envy.
How it is Earth element represented: Square shapes, gravel, bricks andstone paving. Crystals or stones such as Yellow Citrine, Fluorite and Jasper.
Colors: Autumn colors, from pink through orange to dark brown.
